Moon Child

The moment the Moon first touched the Sea was the moment this world was born.

origen.jpeg

The Moon represents consciousness: the higher self, a wise and silent presence that accompanies and reveals.

The Sea represents matter: depth, emotion, strength, and darkness.

Together, they give rise to the creatures of this world, beings caught between these two forces, searching for transformation and for a way to bring them into unity.

I wanted to represent the first encounter between the Moon and the Sea: a collision that gradually becomes a dance.

EXT. MAR NOCTURNO — NOCHE

Silencio.
Solo queda la imagen eterna
.
La luna flotando sobre el mar.

I translated the idea into a storyboard, focusing on the tension between collision and synchrony. The way the Moon and the Sea move against and around each other.

I then explored an alternative approach through a digital collage animation test. I introduced several elements that I thought would add more context to the story, but the experiment made me realize that the original idea was stronger on its own.

Digital Collage

My first attempt at producing the animation was a light box. I wanted to create multiple layers for the Sea and give the waves more depth and movement.

The process quickly became more complicated than the idea itself. I realized that what I wanted to communicate could be expressed much more simply.

I returned to hand-drawn 2D animation in black and white, using the contrast between the two as another expression of the duality at the heart of the piece.
